After a full week of traveling, we are finally at the Palacio de Isora Resort in Tenerife Canary Islands . Had a great time in Madrid and visited Toledo as well. Toledo was beautiful and the history most interesting. Some of the beautiful buildings we saw dated back to the 12th century. Amazing, considering that in comparison, how brief is our country's history. After Spain, we visited Marrakech, Morocco. It was the most exotic place I've ever been, but the people were friendly and the culture diverse and interesting. We spent one day visiting monuments, palaces, royalty's burial sites and the famous Souks...a maze of thousands of alley ways filled with vendor's stalls all side by side and selling everything imagineable. Had we not had a guide, we would probably still be there, trying to find our way out!!The following day, our guide took us to the Atlas Mountains, where we visited a Berber village and had lunch at a small Berber restaurant, in a pass, overlooking the river and mountainside. The women of the village were washing their clothing in the river while camels and mules watched from nearby. We were totally fascinated by their simple lifestyle and sympathetic for how difficult life must be for the women, who apparently, do all of the work. We were told that the Berber women do all of the housework, cooking, tend the animals and carry the firewood on their backs for miles, while their husbands sit around and visit and tell stories. Chuck and Robert thought they might be interested in moving to the Atlas Mountains!!
